We wanted to take some time to explain the changes that have been happening at Drone-Hacks — both the ones you can see and the ones happening behind the scenes.
We know the most recent change happened with relatively little advance notice, so here's a proper explanation of where Drone-Hacks has come from, what's changed, and what it means for existing customers.
The original Drone-Hacks client was created out of frustration with the lack of innovation in the drone modification world. At the time, development of existing solutions had stagnated and users were often left with outdated or unreliable tools.
Drone-Hacks was launched by Andreas Makris (Bin4ry) in June 2020 with the aim of providing a stable and community-driven alternative.
Over the following years, DJI significantly increased the technical security of its products, including stronger encryption, trust zones and additional anti-modification measures. This naturally made researching, developing and maintaining drone modifications increasingly complicated.
Despite those challenges, Drone-Hacks continued to grow thanks to its developers and a global community of pilots and enthusiasts.
In June 2024, the Drone-Hacks business transitioned from its original operator, thinkAwesome GmbH, to DroneWizard s.r.o.
As part of that transition, existing thinkAwesome customers were provided with a migration system allowing eligible existing Drone-Hacks licences to be transferred into the new DroneWizard platform free of charge.
This migration was not automatic. Existing customers needed to register with the new system and authenticate against the previous system so that their account and licence could be identified and migrated.
The legacy migration facility remained available until 31 December 2025, at which point the old system was retired.
Licences which were successfully migrated became part of the active DroneWizard customer and licence system. Historical thinkAwesome customer records and licences which were never migrated were not subsequently held within that system.
In November 2025, DroneWizard decided to step away from operating Drone-Hacks and focus on other business interests.
Under the agreements governing that transition, the Drone-Hacks intellectual property, software, domains and other operational assets were transferred or licensed to SkyMod Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales and operated by me (Cs2000).
SkyMod also took over the active customer and licence information held within the DroneWizard system so that existing customers could continue using Drone-Hacks without disruption.
The signed transfer agreement specifically provided for the transfer of registered licences, unregistered licences and the customer information necessary to continue operating the service. Historical order information and other historical backend data were expressly excluded from that transfer.
This has given Drone-Hacks a new legal and operational home in the United Kingdom while allowing development of the project to continue.
Drone-Hacks is now operated by SkyMod Technologies Ltd.
Some familiar faces remain involved with the project while others have moved on to different ventures. We're grateful to everyone who has contributed to Drone-Hacks throughout its different stages.
SkyMod is now responsible for the operation and continued development of Drone-Hacks and for meeting the legal and regulatory obligations applicable to the business under UK law and, where applicable to our activities and customers, other relevant jurisdictions.
The transition involved considerably more than simply changing the company name on the website.
We've been migrating and reconfiguring infrastructure, servers, systems, payment providers, domains and customer-facing services so that they operate under SkyMod Technologies Ltd.
Sales and licence processing were temporarily paused while this work was completed.
We're pleased to confirm that as of 10 November 2025, sales resumed and Drone-Hacks began operating under SkyMod Technologies Ltd.
There may still be occasional references to previous operators or outdated links hidden around the website or documentation. If you find something we've missed, please let us know through the support portal.
We want to be particularly clear about this because Drone-Hacks has now been operated by three different legal entities.
When SkyMod took over Drone-Hacks, the active customer and licence information held by DroneWizard was securely transferred to SkyMod Technologies Ltd so that we could continue providing the service.
This included customers who purchased through DroneWizard as well as eligible legacy customers whose licences had previously been migrated into the DroneWizard system.
It did not include the complete historical customer or order database of thinkAwesome GmbH. Historical thinkAwesome records and licences which had never been migrated into the DroneWizard system were not part of the customer database transferred to SkyMod.
The personal information transferred to SkyMod continues to be processed for purposes connected with operating Drone-Hacks, including:
SkyMod Technologies Ltd is the data controller for the personal information it now processes.
The transfer from the EU to SkyMod in the United Kingdom is also supported by the European Commission's UK adequacy decision. The Commission renewed the UK's GDPR adequacy decision in December 2025, and ICO guidance confirms that personal information can flow from the EEA to the UK under that decision without additional international-transfer safeguards.

If your account and licence were already present in the DroneWizard system when SkyMod took over, you did not need to re-register or reclaim your licence as part of the DroneWizard → SkyMod transfer.
Those licences were transferred to SkyMod as part of maintaining continuity for existing customers. The transfer agreement expressly provided for registered and unregistered licences to be transferred to SkyMod.
This is separate from the earlier thinkAwesome → DroneWizard migration, which required legacy customers to complete the migration process before that facility closed on 31 December 2025.
We appreciate that having multiple changes of operator over the lifetime of Drone-Hacks can make this distinction confusing, so we're documenting the history more clearly going forward.
A huge thank-you to everyone who has supported Drone-Hacks throughout its different stages — from its beginnings under thinkAwesome, through the DroneWizard era, and now into its new chapter under SkyMod Technologies Ltd.
A lot has happened behind the scenes to get the project to this point, and we're grateful for everyone's patience while the latest transition was completed.
I'd personally also like to thank Pat and the other team members who put considerable work into Drone-Hacks during the DroneWizard period and have since decided to move on to other projects. Their contribution to keeping Drone-Hacks moving forward during that period is greatly appreciated.
We're now focused on making Drone-Hacks stable, sustainable and properly supported for the long term.
